Mark Knopfler, OBE is a British singer-songwriter and guitarist, notably with Dire Straits.

Dire Straits was formed in London during 1977 and went on to become an international success after the release of its debut album ‘Dire Straits’ in 1978.  The song “Sultans of Swing” (composed and written by Knopfler) taken from the album became a hit single in both America and the U.K.  It was the first of a long string of successes for Dire Straits, and while the lineup would shift frequently over the group’s lifespan — Mark Knopfler and John Illsley would prove to be the group’s only constants — between 1978 and 1995 the group was a top concert draw and a frequent presence on radio and record charts; their landmark 1985 album Brothers in Arms sold over nine million copies in the United States alone, thirty million copies worldwide, and was the top-selling CD of the ’80s in the UK. The band’s songs include “Money for Nothing”, “Sultans of Swing”, “So Far Away”, “Walk of Life”, “Industrial Disease”, “Brothers in Arms”, “Private Investigations”, “Romeo and Juliet”, “Tunnel of Love”, “Telegraph Road”, and “Lady Writer”.

Knopfler has also found international success as a solo artist, a record producer and film score composer.

Knopfler is a fingerstyle guitarist and was ranked 27th on Rolling Stone’s list of 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. Knopfler and Dire Straits have sold in excess of 120,000,000 records to date. A four-time Grammy Award winner, Knopfler is the recipient of the Edison Award, the Steiger Award and the Ivor Novello Award, as well as holding three honorary doctorate degrees in music from universities in the United Kingdom.

Born This Day 16 September in 1984, Katie Melua, UK singer, songwriter, (2004 UK No.1 album ‘Call Off The Search’, 2004 UK Top 10 single ‘The Closest Thing To Crazy’, 2007 UK No.1 single ‘What a Wonderful World’ with Eva Cassidy).

Sting has opened the doors of his Italian home to People magazine cameras after transforming the 16th century Tuscany ruin into a dream retreat.

The rocker and his wife Trudie Styler purchased the property in 1997 after a seven-year search for the perfect summer home near Pisa, but it was in a terrible state.

Il Palagio, which is located just outside Florence, had fallen into disrepair, but Sting was taken with the breathtaking views and decided the estate was worth investing in.

“It overlooks some of the most luscious Chiantishire hills,” he tells the publication.

“The vineyards were in a big old mess,” actress/producer Trudie adds. “The soil was parched, the land was very dry, but through it all we saw that it wanted to come back to life. It was desperate to be loved. We saw that it had a huge potential.”

The couple invested time, effort and money in Il Palagio and now the estate boasts six guest houses, five lakes, a forest and even an outdoor cinema.

Adele is reportedly taking a ten-year break from touring once her current trek ends.

The Hello singer began her Adele Live 2016 show, her first in five years, in February (16) and is due to complete the run in Arizona in November after more than a hundred shows.

According to The Sun newspaper, she is in no hurry to head back out on the road again and wants to take 10 years off from touring to focus on raising her three-year-old son Angelo.

“Angelo is the number one priority for Adele. He is the most important thing in her life,” a source said. “She has brought him everywhere with her on tour but as he is starting school next year, he won’t be able to join her any more.

“Adele doesn’t want to miss a moment of Angelo growing up and it’s an easy decision for her to give up touring for him… Right now she is saying she won’t do another massive world tour like the current one for another 10 years.”

Adele has bought a $7.8 million (£6 million) mansion in the Hollywood Hills, which boasts a swimming pool, an outdoor train set and a tree house. The family, including her partner Simon Konecki, were originally thought to be relocating there for around eight months, but it’s believed the move will be more permanent as she has sold her townhouse in Brighton, England.
