Running a hobby radio station including a website and social media accounts can be a little tricky it seems to be full of legal pitfalls. So here’s the story.
Smooth Velvet Radio including the radio station, it’s website, social media accounts and other component parts is run purely as a hobby. Like most hobbies it cost me money and of course a great deal of time. Technically speaking it is possible that I could receive revenues from Smooth Velvet Radio, it has never happened and there is no realistic possibility of it happening. If it did happen the ongoing cost of operating the station (not to mention accumulated costs to date) would far outweigh the revenue. I work hard to abide by all copyright issues.
Royalties for all broadcast music (except jingles, and promos) are the responsibility of Radionomy. Radionomy host my radio station, they provide the auto DJ, scheduling and other software and of course hardware and communications infrastructure. The current wording of radio producers contracts with Radionomy can be seen here. I do not currently have any jingles or promos but plan to create some jingles in the next few months. I will purchase a licence to the music used in the jingles from one of the large commercial online libraries that sell licences for the royalty free use of their copyright music, sound effects, photographs and other images. Examples of these online libraries are…
I own the copyright on the Smooth Velvet Radio logo; you may freely use the logo but only in the context of referencing this radio station eg to comment on social media that you have been listening. All other images on this website other than those used to illustrate news stories have been acquired from one of the aforementioned online libraries. For example a licence to use the “Copyright” image above was purchased from Crystal Graphics. I do not own the copyright of these images, only a licence to use them; therefore you may not use or make copies of these images. Images used to illustrate news stories usually come from the source of the story and I credit these sources appropriately. Where the image did not accompany the original story I have searched the internet for a suitable “free to use and share” images using Yahoo, see below…
Having said all of the above, if you believe I have breached your copyright or failed to acknowledge use of your material please let me know and I will rectify the position as quickly as possible.
